| "How many people are in your party?" This website can help you determine which yacht best accommodates you comfortably depending on the size of your group and your space needs. "When do you want to go? Knowing when you plan to travel helps determine the cruising grounds you should be considering. Prices, availability and particularly weather, can all vary depending on the time of year and can play an important part in choosing. "Is there anyone in the party with special dietary requirements?" or have been cooking all their lives as a special interest held with particular zeal! It's important to inquire if you have specific needs. "Does anyone in the party want to SCUBA dive? crew of your yacht freedom to have lunch prepared, do a little cleaning, etc. "Is your group more interested in a Day Sail or a Fishing Charter than booking a yacht for several days? Don't forget to look at the yachts that specialize in fishing charters. They'll make sure you catch "the big one"! Other yachts do a great job of specializing in half-day or full-day charters. You'll find a lot of variety and prices for every budget here! "Has anyone in your party sailed before? Is learning to sail an important element of your charter?" By design, some boats just sail better and faster than others. Is performance important? For those who love a performance boat and want to take the helm, most captains are happy to accommodate. Understand the various designs of boats and can help you choose the right boat. "Is this a 'get wild & crazy' vacation or a wind down & relax vacation?" Some crews are specialists in finding all the hot spots. Others know the places where there will only be a couple other boats in the anchorage & the only ones getting wild are the wildlife. Learn as much as you can to match your personalities and expectations with the right yacht. "How often are the sheets and towels changed and do I have a separate beach towel?" The yachts all specialize in different aspects of service. Some change the sheets half way through the charter and towels every other day, and make & turn down your bed, while others do not. Some yachts use china, glass and table linen. This may or may not be important to you depending on the quality of service you are accustomed to.No one should have to sleep in the yacht's main salon or cockpit because of lack of cabins, unless of course, they want to. "What is the size of the cabin compared to the rest of the boat? Is there privacy?" The brochure and schematic of the yacht should be provided for you with each yacht's website link. Notice where your cabin is located and where the crew's quarters are. If you don't see an online brochure, inquire directly. "What are the chances that the yacht will heel over (or tip) too much or be a rough sail? All crewed professional yachts are very careful to learn about your experience & comfort level in sailing. Want to play hard, go fast, get the rails in the water and live life on the edge like a yacht in the America's Cup? Just let the Captain know your desire aboard any of our VICL yachts, he's usually raring to go! If your style is quieter, with a specific comfort zone required you will be accommodated by your Captain and crew. Either style of sailing or a combination of both is a very normal request. "Wouldn't a bareboat, cruise ship or an all-inclusive resort be cheaper?" In the long run, not necessarily. If you are looking for an alternative to chain hotels and crowded beaches, or feel restricted by cruise ships with fixed itineraries and organized shore trips, then a yacht charter vacation is definitely the answer - at a comparable price. If you bareboat , you get to rent the boat and that's it. EVERYTHING else is extra - the food, the moorings & dockage, the custom & immigration fees. Even a hired Captain for a bareboat must be hired, if the bareboat company thinks you need one. Then there is the cooking, the cleaning (don't forget, your family & friends want to just relax & have nothing but fun!) navigating, reading the chart and knowing where to anchor so you don't plunk your 75 pound anchor down on our precious coral reefs. And if all that wasn't enough, there are many unmarked coral reefs that are not shown on the charts! On a crewed yacht all you have to do is what you choose to what do. If you want to sail, the Captain is usually more than happy to hand over the helm. Resorts and cruise ships are usually crowded. You have to decide where you're going to eat and eating in restaurants in the Caribbean is not inexpensive. Most of the cruise ship lines are going to charge are going to put a dent in your budget if you plan for water related excursions and another tab for all your cocktails! An all inclusive crewed charter yacht vacation is an incredible value and a vacation of a lifetime. What other details should I be aware of? You’ll need hotel reservations if you decide to stay before or after your charter begins. The yachts will provide you with questionnaires about provisioning options. You'll also need to provide the Captain with all your passport information before you arrive as well as itineraries for airline tickets, etc. Travel insurance is available too; but not required. An escrow account is available for you to make your payments for your charter if you desire. Some yachts will take credit cards. **And finally, please remember to include gratuities for your hard working Captain and Crew. It's a very important part of their income and should be based on great service exactly as one does in any restaurant or service business. |
